Description
A wicked day today was difficult for birds and humans alike. With over 50mph/80kmh winds most of the day, I felt sorry for these little ones trying to feed in winds that made it hard for me just to stand. I don't know how they did it! I chose this image to show how they were buffeted by the winds and had to hang on for dear life. There was an 800 acre fire just a few miles from my home with over a dozen structures burned and many families evacuated. The air was rife with smoke and my nerves were as ruffled as this little guy's feathers. My homemade bird blind was destroyed and I lost a few tree limbs, but thankfully that was all. Thanks very kindly for your views and comments on my recent images. I truly appreciate it! Will try to catch up tomorrow.

I do wonder how these tiny birds make it through the winter. Times like this it seems too harsh to be fair - but then, who ever said life was fair. When someone asks "if you were an animal, what kind of animal would you want to be?" I think none are any better off than I am now. And some, like this, seem to be pushed to the max on survival instinct. A really great shot you have here.

A terrific macro made under hardly calm conditions, Maria! Heavens, how did this stalwart finch survive the tornadic blasts of the merciless wind storm? Incredible. This is the stuff TV disaster movies are made of!

Beautiful picture. I saw on the news tonite about the wind and fires in Texas. We suppose to get some storms tonite here in Va with high winds and cold temps after it moves through. :)

He certainly seems to be facing the wrong way, but in winds like that there probably is no right way. Excellent job catching him and showing us his plight. Stay safe down there. If I could, I'd send you some rain. I have more than enough.

I love the fluffy feathers, but what impresses me the most is the detail captured on the talon. Fantastic image. The color is also wonderfully subtle, yet diverse and perfectly captured. Fantastic work!

best one yet for sure! terrific!

Excellent image, especially considering the circumstances involved. I would have ducked for any cover myself if I were the bird. Sorry to hear about your blind as well as the fires.

He does look ruffled, and I know I would be too with a large fire that close. I hope the winds die down soon and that your damage isn't too bad.

OHH Yes, it is too hart for these little creatures. And i can see that your liTTle guest had a hart time too. And so did you over there. I hope ther will come no more storms for you. I have thought about making some long boxes with isolation for small birds to hide at night. :)
