Description

It was a very beautiful day in Oklahoma. I filled up the bird feeders put fresh water in the bird bath and grabbed my camera; I was of for a day of photograph. As I live close to Lake Arbuckle I decided to start on the south side of the lake where very few people are this time of year. Not much going on a couple of Great Blue Heron of in the distance, a Pileated Woodpecker flew across the cove and a few ducks diving for food. It was a very relaxing and peaceful scene but I was looking for something different. It wasn’t long before I wondered up on this Armadillo hard at work digging for insects, worms or that special tasty root that would only satisfy the most discerning of palettes. He must have realized something was close by he suddenly stood up to check me out, Armadillos has very poor eye site so I dought he could see me, they rely on their hearing and since of smell to detect danger. He must not have felt threatened; soon he was back hard at work. Thanks for your views and for your comments.

Great shot of a shy guy~ They used to only reside west of the Mississippi but sometime in the last 20 years or so they have made it to the east side. They are found in Tennessee, Alabama, and Florida (panhandle) I know, not sure how much further east they've gone. Pretty day here in Tennessee today too! =)

When I was in grade school, every morning while waiting for the bus to school, a large armadillo would cross the street, walk past me by inches and borrow into the undergrowth behind me. They are such odd creatures. This is a fantastic capture and its pose is marvelous.

We once sat very still and watched one, (which we lovingly called Texas Speed Bumps) come right up to us and never noticed us as we were upwind and quiet. So I think you are right that their eyesight must be very poor. Love how you caught him standing up!

Nice capture. They are a cool animal until you have a few residing on your property. My yard looks like a mine field sometimes. LOL. I have relocated a number of them but a relative moves back in, they have a condo under one of my sheds. Very funny when they try to hide, once their head is under something they freeze, just their body sticking out.
