Description
This is a shot of a dormant White Oak Tree, taken yesterday at the Litcherman Nature Center here in Memphis, Tennessee. The White Oak normally grows 65 to 85 feet tall, and can live up to 500 years. Some of the White Oaks at the Nature Center are absolutely massive, so one can only imagine all the history they’ve witnessed.
With the arrival of spring not too long from now, this giant natural abstract will burst into various light shades of green, and in a matter of a few days the new leaves will create another natural wonder all of their own.
But winter reveals the amazing structure of the White Oak not visible any other time of the year. And the beauty of its design rivals the view of any other season.
