Description
This is another shot from the Fire Station, this is taken from the radiator/grill. Yesterday I did not give any details as to the vehicle that the bell was on, today I rectify that. Below is the information.
A 1940 DENNIS 'BIG 6' Pump Escape GNB 217
This appliance was supplied to Manchester Fire Brigade in April 1940 and cost £1620 British Pounds($3,264.56 Dollars US, €2,385.92 Euro).
The chassis is a Dennis 'Big 6' low load line model and the original engine was a Meadows 6 Cylinder 115 bhp petrol unit. A Dennis 800gal/min(3,600ltr/min) pump is fitted and there is a 40 gal(180ltr) first aid tank.
The bodywork is to MFB(Manchester Fire Brigade) specification and carries a Morris 'AJAX' 60 foot(18mtr) wooden wheel escape ladder. It originally served at London Road, Fire Station, Manchester, UK.
In 1958 the Meadows engine was replaced by a Gardner 6LW Diesel engine, after which the appliance served on the reserve fleet and - later - the training school.
The appliance is on loan to the GMFS Museum by Mr Brian Daniel of Hazel Grove, Cheshire, UK.
Tomorrow, I will post the full Fire Engine.
Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make.
May the sun shine down on you, where ever you are.

I like this Jeff, has an artistic value to it. good to see these reflection shots, puts a different slant on the usual Museum shots and an excellent piece of background information I'll look forward to viewing the whole Engine tomorrow, Alan.

Superb! When I was little I use to think that I kept seeing the same fire engine---'Dennis'! Then I realised there were lots of them and wondered why they were all called Dennis. Life continues to present different but equally puzzling problems even in retirement!
