Description
As promised yesterday, today you see the man himself, I know a lot of people refer to their vehicles as "She" but come on this one is called dennis after all. I have it on good athority this particular make was named after Danny's(danob) dad. Danny's dad told him this when he was a fireman.lol. For those of you that are familiar with my gallery should remember this one from last year, this is not the same picture though. When the bring the engine out it is always parked in the same place. Thats why it might look familiar. Unfortunately this shot has the Red and White tape, which is put there to discourage anybody from climbing on to the machine(Health & Safety stikes again)
A 1940 DENNIS 'BIG 6' Pump Escape GNB 217
This appliance was supplied to Manchester Fire Brigade in April 1940 and cost £1620 British Pounds($3,264.56 Dollars US, €2,385.92 Euro).
The chassis is a Dennis 'Big 6' low load line model and the original engine was a Meadows 6 Cylinder 115 bhp petrol unit. A Dennis 800gal/min(3,600ltr/min) pump is fitted and there is a 40 gal(180ltr) first aid tank.
The bodywork is to MFB(Manchester Fire Brigade) specification and carries a Morris 'AJAX' 60 foot(18mtr) wooden wheel escape ladder. It originally served at London Road, Fire Station, Manchester, UK.
