Description

…as stated by the prime minister of Japan General Hideki Tōjō on March 12, 1942. Two months later Task Force 17, which included the carriers CV-2 Lexington and CV-5 Yorktown steamed westward towards the middle of the Coral Sea to intercept I.J.N forces attacking Tulagi. The CV-2 Lexington (converted battle cruiser) was 880 feet long and 106 feet wide and capable of carrying 91 aircraft. On May 7,1942 her air group attacked and sank the I.J.N light carrier Shōhō. A Lexington airman radioed back: “scratch one flattop” as the U.S. Navy had sunk its first carrier of WWII. The next day, May 8, “Lady Lex” had to be abandoned and sunk after an aircraft fuel fume related explosion, the result of an earlier air attack. Though the Lexington was lost, the ultimate IJN objective of Port Moresby, New Zealand was saved. In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him. The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land. An excellent render. I found it very informative. On a more critical note, perhaps there should be more shadow if you'd have the red sky.

I guess I've never paid attention to aircrafts like this before... I don't recall seeing smoke out like that - now I bet Thats what I'll look at when I see them now. Picture looks great!

Nice render. Yeah the Battle of Coral Sea was important because it was the first time the US stopped Japan's advances and it set the stage for Midway.
