Description

These locals were getting ready to bring their daily catch to the market. Bora Bora is about 32km in circumference and is best seen by bicycle using the paved road. It is said that riding around the island by bike can be done in 90 minutes, and I am sure that it can, but I was on vacation in this tropical paradise, and the last thing on my mind was time. Using the bike I could stop wherever I wanted, make side trips inland, and enjoy the tranquility. Comparing this to Hawaii is like comparing day with night. I imagine Hawaii must have been this tranquil about 100 years ago. This picture was taken near Marae in April 2001 and later scanned. Additional information: Average annual temperature in the Society Islands is 25C. Basically two seasons. 1) warm and humid with intermittent rain between November and April, and 2) warm and dry between May and October. Average annual water temperature is in the low 80s. In the South around the Tropic of Capricorn the climate is subtropical and in the Marquesas in the North it is steamy and equatorial. All islands fall within this range. High islands are generally more humid than atolls. Bora Bora, Moorea, and Tahiti are high islands (volcanic origins). Thanks for viewing and commenting on my last upload.

And Paradise it is! The flowering tree in the foreground adds to the composition, and I have to agree with PJ on the uplifting mood. Thanks for sharing this series with us Sig.

I agree with you, Sig. If you wanted to enter a bike race, you could have stayed home. Vacation is the time to enjoy the sights and sounds. I love the casual look of this one, and it also looks so nice and warm.

You are a far more extensive traveller than I've been so far and, seeing this incredible vista, I admire the opportunities that your occupation gave you to travel the world.
