Description
This exhibit was cordened off as there was some work being done on it. It's a Steam Fire Engine and dates back to George V. It does still work and when they take it out into the yard for a normal open day they do fire it up. It's quite a few years since I saw it working, but they did have it pumping water at quite a steady rate at the time. Hopefull they will take it out later in the year, I will get some pics then I hope, it's quite a sight with black smoke pouring out of it when first lit, once the fire gets going though it's not too bad.
Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make.
May the sun shine down on you, where ever you are.
Oh! forgot to mention this is made by Shand Mason the same as the Corridor Pump from yesterday.

I'm not into machines, old or new, but I must say it's a very interesting series, Jeff. What I like most about it is the composition. Every image has so much detail.

They looked so much better than the boxes used today.

With Historical Machinary, the earliest ones are always the most fascinating, thanks for sharing this and the others Jeff and valuable information to go along side.

I see this one is called George, not Dennis. Hmmmmm. At first I thought the hose coupling on the left side of the picture was a fancy camera lens! Clearly, I've been hanging around Renderosity too much! LOL! :)
