Description

[best viewed full sized] Chirk Castle is a 700 year old marcher fortress, which commands fine views over the surrounding countryside. It was built in the late 13th century by Roger Mortimer, Justice of North Wales for Edward 1. The castle was sold for 5,000 UK pounds to Sir Thomas Myddelton in 1595 and his descendants continue to live in part of the castle today. There are many legends involving Chirk Castle, one of which is that no prisoner could last for more than ten years in the dungeons because the conditions were so bad (I think I'd lose the will to live after a week!) Postwork involves slight alteration of curves and sturation, as well as a little dodge and burn on the stonework. Thanks for looking and any comments and critique are more than welcome!

Superb quality image as with all of your work. For me, the green lawn contrasting with the blue sky is amazing. Of course, that building is incredible in itself. A wonderful photo Carl my friend!

What beautiful clean lines this capture has. A very neat and tidy looking castle and still modern looking even though it is so old.

Wonderful shot, Carl! I found myself immediately drawn to the calmness and serenity of those velvety greens, and that sensation was quickly followed by mt shock at the strange juxtaposition of those crenellations against the skyline with that soothing green! Every detail is super!

Well this is a fabulous representation of Chirk Castle Carl. The lighting is perfect considering just how sunny it was that day. You have managed to maintain the glorious lush colours in the grass and still display all the details in the stonework, emphasised beautifully by the casting shadows. I love this POV too, a difficult castle to capture in full composition due to it's high location and surrounding trees and fences, but you found about the only place to capture it's entire magnificence and without any of those pesky tourists in the shot either LOL! Excellent photo babe, I love it! Hugs Chrissy xox

Great use of light and shadow Carl, lovely green shades on the grass area actually highlighting the castle. If this grass had been in full sun, I believe it would have overshadowed the detail you have captured in the castle itself. A place I have drove through but never visited, it seems I must right that wrong at sometime. Excellent capture grat pov. Bravo!!!!!
