Description
Four lone graves under an oak tree at Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs, Mississippi. The old picturesque cemetery is a recent discovery of ours, and is rather extensive in size.
It contains the final resting place of 13 Generals from the Confederate Army, and is also home to Hiram Rhodes, the first African-American elected to the U.S. Senate from the state of Mississippi, way back in 1870. Somehow Mr. Rhodes was elected to fill the unexpired Senate term of none other than Confederate President Jefferson Davis. This was an amazing accomplishment for 1870, in Mississippi no less, especially just being a few short years following the conclusion of the American Civil War.
This was our second trip to Hillcrest, and between us we probably took over 200 photographs. I noticed a lot of dogwood trees there with the buds looking like they were anxious to bloom, so I must assume we'll return in a few weeks to experience Hillcrest in the springtime!
Thanks for stopping by!

I bet this would be a totally different feel when that tree is in full leaf, and the sun is shining! I love the bleak look this has in winter - it's the perfect mood for your subject.
