Description

I want to thank all the other artists who have taken the time to view, comment and fav my last image. As usual, you overwhelm me with your kind comments and make me smile. Thank you. :o) I have been tracing my ancestors for over thirty years and it has been an interesting, intriguing and sometimes frustrating journey. I have found that on my mother's side my ancestors were in this country by 1624 of English, Irish and Scottish ancestors. On my father's side it is pure Russian and they immigrated to the USA just before the Russian Revolution. I was working on my genealogy (it is never done) lol and started to think how frightening and exciting it must have been. My grandfather came about a year ahead of grandmother to find work and a place to live. My grandmother then came with my uncle who was only three at the time. Alone on a ship that took fifteen days, in cramped quarters, not speaking the language and $27.00 dollars in her pocket. They were three of millions that came through the gates of Ellis Island to a better life in the Land of Milk and Honey. After going through the rigors of Ellis Island and they passed, they went out on a dock and waited for the ferry to take them to the 'mainland,' Manhattan and a new life. I wondered what their reaction was when they looked over and saw, for them this massive island with tall buildings in the distance, knowing their journey was almost over. Hence the image. A family waiting for the ferry and looking across at their new life. This is dedicated to all the immigrants who came through Ellis Island all those many years ago ... this does not diminish the pioneers who left their homes and went south and west to a better life. They had a whole different kettle of fish to deal with. But that's another story. :o) Daz-Victorian coat for V3, Laura RNDA-Legends M3 Daz-Tiny Tim, Morning Hair RNDA-Victoria cowl-freebie Wharf-me made in Bryce Background-me

They look so hopeful, and yet a little apprehensive--I love how you can do so much with just a few things, the small pile of luggage, their poses, and the wind and the gulls--you set such a wonderful mood!

Tracing your family history is something I've been interested in but never got into it. My Mother was contacted by a man that spent his life tracing... We have ties to 8 different presidents... Grant was obvious (Grandmother's maiden name) I was told the other 7, but did not care at that point in life. The info is still floating around the family, I should look into it... It is interesting - so is your picture.

Alexis I read your wonderful story of your ancestory and then looked down at the image and was blown away :) What a truly epic presentation my friend, I am so in love with this scene and the background info that goes with it. I've got a lot of Irish and Scottish in me so I can relate.

Ohhhhh, Alexis, this is fantastic! I love this. Part of my family came through at Ellis Island and the rest crossed the border in Canada. This is fantastic. And almost as interesting mix as I... Irish and Dane. ;o) Bunny

Wonderful idea and render! It's a shame that the Ellis Island complex, outside the main building is in such disrepair. That's a very significant part of our history and deserves better.

Lucky your ancestors didn't have potato chips amongst their luggage, otherwise the sea gull's would have been all over it like a rash ! Kool dockside scene and details, I'm glad you could trace some of your history ! Well done & ~Cheers~
