Description

I had a chance to get fairly close to the elk at Jewel Meadows Wildlife Area on Monday. I was shooting almost directly into the afternoon sun, so this isn't an ideal shot. I had to do a Shadow/Highlight adjustment to get some detail back into the elk. There were about 20 there, grazing on the grass and fresh alfalfa hay provided by the Department of Fish and Wildlife. These elk have a good life. Free food in the winter, protection from hunters, and no restrictions whatsoever. They're free to roam, but they know where they are safe; they gather here in large numbers during hunting season. Thanks for stopping by and any comments.

Now isn't that always the case Dennis, we all sit here wishing for the lovely weather and sunshine to come along to encourage us to go out with our cameras and then we do nothing but moan about it ruining our shots LOL!!! An excellent capture none-the-less of this fine elk. You did a great job in postwork bringing out all of the details of the fur. Hugs Chrissy xx

What a nice shot of the elk. I've been to this place one time and was so amazed at the large number of elk and at the beauty of the elk.

A great capture Dennis. The shot looks good to me, but sometimes shooting under less than ideal conditions makes the result more realistic and rewarding to me, Sig....
