Description

As soon as I got IgnisSerpentus' Absinthe (on RDNA) I wanted to portray her in the place of the girl in Eduard Manet's "Bar at the Folies Bergere" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Edouard_Manet_004.jpg and try repainting that image myself, by hand. If you look closely you'll see that most of the elements in the original painting are there, but I changed the angle of the mirror (the mirror frame is plain in Manet's version, it's just a dull gold strip above the red wallpaper)and flipped the man talking to her to look the other direction, so that she is the center of interest (Manet accomplished this by making him very sketchy, and setting him behind her reflection.) I did remove the bowl of oranges, though they are one of my favorite parts of the original, because I wanted to leave room for her pose--the original girl is a calm angel in the middle of a busy, smoky bar, this Absinthe is a little devil and a purveyor of dubious drinks. Everything but Absinthe'hair, head, neck, her arms and hands are painted in Art Rage and Photoshop.

Oh my Lynn... this is the absolute COOLEST image. You know, I was kind of hoping someone would do a "real" Absinthe render with her... I love the Victorian/Art Nouveau feel of the era (and as I told you, I almost added an absinthe glass and slotted spoon prop, but decided to go a diff way with her) Your painting in this is c'est manifique, I too love the guy in the top hat and the busy bar atmosphere. I think it is positively one of your best!!! Def goin to my faves!!! (((((((((huggies)))))))))))))

Amazing work Lynn. I can't get over how beautiful your painting skills are. I really like the idea of taking an otherwise normal scene, and mixing it up a bit with an elf. Excellent image.
