Description

This is my very first model built using Carrara 5. In many ways, it is similar to Hexagon, which is a program I always found very intuitive and easy to use, but it has more capabilities including the ability to render, which Hex does not. I've gotten a semi-decent grasp of the vertex modeler, which I used to build this model, but the shading domains still baffle me. For now I can manage things well enough to get nice renders in Carrara, but exporting to Poser screws up the Material domains. I'll have to figure that out before I can put this baby up for download here, but in the meantime I can still do pictures. :-) The station is an original design. I tried combining shapes from a few different things from TOS, like K-7, the Orbital Office in TMP, and the Starfleet HQ station in the old Franz Josef Technical Manual. The starship was rendered separately and added on its own layer in PSP7. Stars and nebula made using Glitterato.

You said you had Version 5. Is it the Pro version? If so, you might try importing your Poser work into Carrara instead. I never got the hang of Hexagon, but I love Carrara. This is great, but where are the waiting lines at the pumps? Where are the pizzas and chips and doughnuts?? MMMMMMMMMMMMMMM. So what if I'm fat? In deep space, I'm weightless! Ever notice they're never dealing with gravity or spacesuits? Besides, didn't the NSCC series use Di-lithium crystals for fuel? No matter. There is no substitute for a Twinkie. The Beer Run will always be universal.

A really good looking sci-fi and ST:TOS scene. Your Hexagon work is very sharp.
