Description

This is the white eared Catbird so called for it's call which sounds like a cat meowing it is a member of the Bowerbird family. I cant say I have ever seen anything like him before with the green and cream colours and Thrush like breast. Or if it behaves in the usual Bower bird mating rituals of other 19 Ptilonorhynchidae The bowerbirds are confined to the great island of New Guinea and the island continent of Australia, and their immediately adjacent islands. They are medium-sized birds, omnivorous and largely solitary. They are unique in the avian world in that the males build elaborate 'bowers': structures of sticks, grasses or other plant stems on or close to the ground for display and courtship, often incorporating objects such as colourful fruits, flowers, feathers, bones, stones, shells, insect skeletons, and numerous other natural (and human-made) objects. Wonderful capture, presentation and narrative Danny, I wonder are they kept behind glass at bird world? You and David both have got some fantastic shots from there. I can imagine that quite a lot of the birds there need a pretty constant temperature to survive. You did say on one of your previous posts that one of the birds fed from your hand before posing for you. I cannot imagine them all flying free, like they have in Butterfly houses. Excellent work. Bravo!!!!!
