Description

Oasis in Death Valley. From the NPS web site: “Nestled deep in an oasis-like canyon in Northern Death Valley National Park lies Death Valley Ranch, or as it is better known Scotty's Castle. A historical home showcasing technological innovation and unequaled craftsmanship in a remote desert location. A place full of the mystery surrounding an incomparable friendship that resulted in the creation of a $2 million dollar vacation home. Today the site is owned and operated by the National Park Service.” Of particular interest to the SIA is the Underground Mysteries tour, which features the advanced (for the day) technology used in building and living in the Castle. Scotty's Castle The Story Behind Scotty's Castle Some say Death Valley Scotty paid for the Castle with gold from his secret mine. Others say his partner, Chicago millionaire Albert Johnson, built it. Regardless of who built it, it is a testament to ingenuity and the character of people involved. The resulting structure is a beautiful example of Spanish-Mediterranean styling filled with unique hand-wrought iron and tile, custom-made furniture, hand-selected tapestries and many European antiques. The resulting friendship between two differing people is also part of the story. So, whose castle was it? We where there and wanted refill our gastank, but the power fell out. You can imagine how I felt, unknown how much gas I needed back to Beaty trough the desert. Well, we managed it. take care, have a glorious day
