Description

This is a photo of Carnegie Hall, a building on the grounds of the abandoned Mississippi Industrial College in Holly Springs, MS. M.I. was founded in 1905 by Bishop Elias Cottrell, a great man of vision and unyielding courage. He believed that the abolishment of the State Normal School for Training Negro Teachers in by the Governor was a direct attacked on Negro education in the state. Along with laymen of Mississippi, he was able to raise $5,300 to purchase 110 acres of land in Holly Springs, MS. This is a shot from our second visit to Holly Springs. The second floor was once a grand chapel and auditorium in the Carnegie Hall building. The building was named in honor of the late Andrew Carnegie, who contributed $25,000.00 toward its erection. The cost of this building was $100,000.00. The first floor housed the dining room. Today, the four remaining buildings stand in ruins. But there is an effort underway to raise money for the purpose of saving these historic buildings. You can click here for more information/history of this place. Thank you for viewing. Make it a great day!

Wow, this is great on so many levels, though it's always sad to see such a building in its final days.

I like this shot, powerful image, you have a good eye for these kind of shots, you got this one just right. you can let your imagination fill these seats with ghostly images of people. The little bit of history was invaluable here thanks.
