Description

Sleep sweetly precious child sleep now bathe in heaven's light may angel's wings keep you safe from harm death cannot break eternal bonds love made nor will death erase your memory from our mortal sight your beloved face is forever etched on our hearts our love could not hold you here so till we meet again my darling lil' one we give you to heaven's care Photograph from Hillcrest Cemetery in Holly Springs, Mississippi. I failed to photograph the other side, so for now I don't know who lost their dear little loved one, unfortunately an all too common occurrence in the mid 1850's. It's heartbreaking seeing so many graves of infants from that time period that pass on, often just days after birth. And many children too. The above poem was written today by Leah, inspired by this photograph. I believe the tombstone carving was meant to give consolation to the grieving parents. But it could never fill the empty spaces in their lives. Count your blessings. This is 4th in a series from Hillcrest Cemetery. Unknown Confederate Soldier will lead you to the other two. marshall

A truly wonderful photo, I'm pretty much speechless. The beautiful words are so fitting for such a beautiful image. It's obvious a lot of care and thought were given to both, thank you for sharing.
