Description

Hello All! Cleaning up my files today and noticed this shot that I never put in my gallery that I shot last summer , I thought I would put it up today even though I realise probally many of you have seen it before,. for some reason this one calls to me today . ! My Mom took me to Mackinac Island in Michigan this summer ( where "Somewhere in time" was filmed ) and I was in awe of this natural rock foramtion we had to take a horse and buggy ride to as there are no cars whatsoever on the island itself. so sharing it today ( if you look very carefully you can see a guy in a red shirt standing on the beach which shows how huge this is !!....) Here is a little info about this place! __ Arch rock, Mich __ ______________________________________________ Arch Rock is a geologic formation on Mackinac Island in Michigan. It is a natural limestone arch formed during the Nipissing post-glacial period, a period of high Lake Huron levels following the end of the Wisconsin glaciation. To this day Arch Rock stands on the Lake Huron shoreline. It is nearly 45 meters (150 ft) above the ground. Limestone breccia is not an ideal material for natural bridges, and this type of formation is quite rare in the North American Great Lakes region. The Native Americans saw Arch Rock as a place of numinous power, and told many stories and legends about it. Euro-Americans did not share many of the taboos of their Native predecessors, and treated Arch Rock as a curiosity to be admired. Its presence was a major element in the decisions to create Mackinac National Park in 1875 Arch Rock has been a part of the State Park ever since. Today Arch Rock is a famous viewing point on Mackinac Island .. _______________________________________________ Best at full size as i have already reduced as much as possible for web viewing -thanks ! Thank you for all your time and comments always- so appreciated!! Love to all!! ((( Big Hugs ))) ~ Kimmers :O) ♥

Hi Kimmers, I just had to stop by and let you know how badly I feel about missing so many of your posts! You have some incredible shots in there and I couldn't comment on all of them, but I do try to comment on a few now and then. Glad to see your still here too! So many of our dear friends are dropping out and pulling their galleries, it's a shame. I decided rather then do that myself, I would just come and go as I am able, hence the slowing down of my posts. Getting ready to camp in Death Valley, so I'll have a few posts from that, no doubt!!!! LOL :P Huggsssss!!!
