Description

Today's image uses another excellent terrain object from photostar (Keith). This one is from his 'Southwestern Panorama' image that he posted on 16th January 2008. The ship is 'Ketch' which is one of JedSwindells wonderful creations. This is the first time I've ever tried to produce a rocky sea but I wasn't really sure how to do it. I did want much more stormy waters so if anyone can let me know how to achieve this I'd be most grateful. I've tilted the boat as well to try to add to the impression of a stormy sea but as I've no idea on the behaviour of boats in strong winds I just tried to make it look as realistic, in my mind, as possible. The only postwork was the addition of the seagulls in Photoshop. Any comments will be most welcome and thanks for taking time to look at my work. Enjoy ... Tony :-)

Great use of Keith's terrain again!! Your stormy water has turned out well for your first attempt and the tilting of the ship has certainly given the impression of a stormy sea!! Great work!!

Coming thru that rocky passage, wind begining to build, would cause the ship to lilt and the wave action turned out very well for your first attempt, Tony. I got the 4 planes so screwed up on my first attempt at this type of wave action, I put it away for another day...lol. Again, you used the terrains to your advantage with great reconstruction and mats.

Beautiful scene, Tony and great use of Keith's lattice terrains. I have found that terrains work well for waves on water. Takes some playing with, but gives good results. Excellent work on this, love the sky.

Great image Tony, like the POV and your use of photoshop for seagulls! If you want a stormier sea use a terrain(or group of them),preferrably a selection like "mordor" or something jagged, increase the size, flatten slightly and render as either a preset such as "atlantic" in the waters,or just as a grey with very low reflection(the water will pick up the colours and lighting from your scene just as in reality)...Neil

Hi Tony' not only did your render came out just fine but also your presentation with the inclusion of the frame ads a good painting quality to the image as do the colours. You can try using 'shipwakes' found in the freedownloads to add more realistic effects to water and ships. Muis
