Description

"But here by the mill the castled clouds Mocked themselves in the dizzy water." ~ Edgar Lee Masters

pteb recently asked if I ever did any cloudscapes in infrared. I have, and though there is a small strip of land and water at the bottom, I think this qualifies as well. To give you a sense of scale, the tall Lake Placid Tower seen between the two white topped water towers near the center is 27 stories tall. The tops of cumulonimbus clouds can easily reach 39,000 feet (3,900 stories or 12,000 meters) or higher. Upon its completion the then Placid Tower was the world's tallest concrete block tower. Postcards encouraged calling home from the highest pay phone in Florida. The observation deck provided a million-acre view of surrounding orange groves and lakes, but has been closed to the public in recent years. I kept the file rather large, and it is best viewed at full size. -----

This photography very much reminds me of Ansel Adams with the way the clouds are very robust and a focal point to the image! This needs something to contrast and enhance the magnitude of the clouds. With AA it was always mountains. a church, a skyscraper, a farmhouse, et. al. would look wonderful in this scene.
