Description

This appliance, one of the tallest British turntable ladders, was delivered to Rochdale County Borough Fire Brigade in March 1957 and passed to the Greater Manchester Fire Service in April, 1974. It spent all it's working life in Rochdale until being withdrawn from operational service in 1976. The 125ft(37Metre) all steel 5-section ladder was supplied by Carl Metz of Germany and built onto the Dennis F.21 chassis powered by a Rolls-Royce B.80 8-cylinder petrol engine, developing 150BHP through a 4-speed crash gearbox. A 500 galls/min(2250 litres/min) centrifugal pump is also fitted. The vehicle has been completely restored to it's 1957 condition by Greater Manchester Fire Service Museum Society. I have an old picture of this vehicle, taken 15years ago at an open day, they actually ran the ladder up the training tower, but couldn't go the full 125ft, because it was a bit windy. That of course would not happen at a fire when somebody was in danger. Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make. May the sun shine down on you, where ever you are. Some postwork done in PSP 9

Yes I've got to agree the colours of the shot are superb with the Engine against that wonderful sky. As for the Engine itself, magnificent and they sure do a good job of maintaining its appearance. And as usual jeff you have added an invaluable narrative. well done mate.

I'm trying to imagine that 125' ladder fully extended, but my mind just boggles! I'll be thinking about it for quite a while.
