Hi, I'm Marilyn. Â I've been posting here on RR for a few years now and thought it was time to update my profile. Â It's been wonderful learning so much from the amazingly talented people here. Â I've had the chance to meet many in person and some have become great and good friends. Â Starting with a Kodak Brownie camera when I was about 7 or 8, moving up to Instamatics, Polaroids, then the Pentax K1000 that really got me on the way, I've been looking at the world thru a lens for a long time. Â Got the bug honestly; my dad was a photographer and gave me the gene!! Â Digital changed the world and I jumped in with both feet. Â You would've gone thru 100's of rolls of film in one day the way we can shoot and delete all day long. Â Progess...it can be awesome sometimes.
At any rate, RR rocks, the talent is over the top and I'm just gonna keep on shooting!!
Thanks for looking and keep those cameras rollin'!!
peace.....marilyn

That sure is a lot of pruning there, but Mother Nature provides you warmth with it and looks like she's never let you down.

It's amazing how we lose track of how much work is actually done for such things as warmth and dry firewood. The modern world has totally divorced us from the intensive work of living; the funny thing about it is for as much work as actual life demands, it's a lot easier than the stuff we often call "work" most of which is useless and doesn't do much more than move abstractions around; with "traditional" western jobs, workers never actually SEE or otherwise sense the end results of their labors, and your written piece underscores this perfectly. You're warmed multiple times and for all that you do, there comes a moment when you're all snug and comfortable and that snug comfort is a direct result of the work you've done. I love the fact that you brought this up and presented it so elegantly. Great work as always, and I LOVE the image that goes with the piece.

Yet we still haven't finished really because you have to take the ashes out of the grate and then if you use them in the garden the whole cycle starts again. Did you forget that bit? Excellent prose Marilyn, I wonder if you felt warm whilst typing the words about Wood into the computer.lol. You certainly work hard. I just press a switch and the gas lights. The modern world and its appliances has made a lot of us lazy. Bravo!!!!!

This is a clever cyclical piece of poetry ... but, sadly, you've miscounted. The true answer is five ... you [and your wood have just warmed us up! Mike

The California Chain-saw Massacre! Wow, after all that extensive and intensive effort cutting, slicing, dicing, et al, I'm surprised you even had the wherewithal to compose a description of your day's chores. Excellent epilogue and image showing the abundant result of your efforts.

Ah, and not forgetting that you have to ger rid of the ashes as well ;-) The problem realy is that sometimes you get realy warm, when you don't need it at all. So yep, the wood all going up into the fire is the best bit!

A lovely way of looking at it. Turning a tedious and difficult task into something so reminiscent and toasty to the mind.
