Description

Introducing "Manny ~ Maynard Ramsey Webster" From Webster Fields Trilogy =*==*==*==*==*=
I, Mercedes Keyes would like to introduce all those who view him, to someone whom I created who encapsulates all the men I heard about in my family tree. Men who were not supposed to be as they were, as I wrote him to be. The blood of those men, flows through my veins and I am so proud to claim them. Therefore, I dedicate this image - that came to life before my eyes and will be used on the cover of my book, soon coming to paperback, Family Reunion. He is in all three books of our trilogy, Webster Fields, Princess Ces'alena, Gold Raven and Family Reunion. Here's to all the philanthropist who lived and risked their lives and died, so that other men, not like them, of a different shade, could be free...
~*~*~*~
Standing as a contridiction of his type in the era of the late 18th century to early 19th, while endowed with his father's physicality - spiritually and emotionally he is his mother's son. And following her wishes he is determined to run Webster Fields as she had done when alive, making it, a safe haven for slaves, whom she treated more as family and employees than ones shackled by chains of bondage. Manny, was a man of principle and honor with a fierce protective streak for all those within Webster Fields. Woe betide any man who dare inflict the lash upon the backs of those he sees as his greatest treasures. A man doing his best within the constraints of the society in which he must operate; a society he was in, but did not feel a part of. By his mother's example, he would never mistreat those in his charge and just like his mother, he always felt more at ease in the company of the slaves, than in "polite society" and to the chagrin of his father, who felt the contrary, believing master and slave should not mix socially. In the words of his father, "They have their place, we have ours." Manny, like his mother would ignore his father's counsel because he too was ruled by his heart and his conscience unwilling to conform to Southern society doctrine. An educated, well traveled man of above average physical strength and on occasion, a very short fuse. Fair to those who were fair to him, but not suffering fools gladly. Life and business was ticking along fine until he was sent to town to collect slaves won in a card game by his father. Among the slaves was someone who would change his life and present him with new challenges. This person was ... Princess Ces'alena. While he possessed papers entitling him to ownership of her, over time, she came to own his heart. Because of this woman and his eventual love for her, he began to lose control of all that he had once thought most important, jeopardizing the status quo at Webster Fields.
