Description

While out walking/hiking we sometimes come across places of historical value or interest. Here in the UK these places are often marked with a Blue Plaque. This one showing where Sir John Cockroft lived for 26 years of his life. The plaque reads - Sir John Cockcroft O.M., K.C.B, C.B.E.,F.RS,1897-1967 Lived here from 1899-1925, Scientist,Administrator, pioneer in the development of the peaceful uses of nuclear power, in 1932, with Dr.E.T.S.Walton, he was the first man to split the atom by artificial means. Joint winner of the Nobel Prize for Physics 1951. Honorary Freeman of the borough of Todmorden. I don't always get chance to thank everyone with a personal sitemail so - Thankyou to those who like to make a comment and those who have chosen to add my photo's to their favourites, always makes my day, thanks again Alan
