Description

Right now I'm doing my best to meet a deadline for an essay this week but there's only so much work you can do at once before the old grey matter rebels and demands a break. So yesterday I grabbed my camera and headed for the beach with my telephoto lens attached to see what the day had to offer. The cloud cover was relatively thick in places, a little too much so for a traditional sunset photo, but the light was trying its best to break through, making for some pretty dramatic spots of light in the hour or so before sundown. The RAF pilots were out dogfighting over the sea, and I managed a few shots of some fighter jets landing which I'm sure I'll post at some point. For today though, I'm reverting to what seems to be becoming a pattern in the gallery so far (not really intentionally) by posting an image containing the sea in some form (hey don't blame me, not many UK university students have easy access to not one, but several award winning beaches - it'd be rude not to appreciate them!). HDR post processed with Photomatix, Photoshop and Lightzone. Thanks very much to TimTripp for point me in the direction of Lightzone ;) That's all folks, now I must away to class.. enjoy!

just the 3 using the camera's auto exposure bracket (-2,0,+2 exp) - I shot in RAW so I could add lighter and darker copies if needed later but decided not to on this occasion

Great image, I find with all portrait format images viewed, because you scroll down to see it all it makes you see various "cropped" views of the image. It left me wondering if it would be even stronger without the out of focus grasses in the forground or less of them? Just a thought! Still a cracking shot anyway!

thanks for the comment =) I did play about with cropping the grass out and in the end decided it added some nice contrast to the foreground. Looking at it online here though I definitely see what you're saying about the 'sections' you see, maybe I should have resized to a smaller size - first time posting a portrait format photo on here....hey thanks, you made me realise something for future portrait format posts ;)
