Description

again, one from the backlog. i spent a while on the hair, but i'm still dissatisfied. i had a problem with the high degree of ambient lighting and the hairstyle. sorry i've been much remiss on comments and pretty much _everything_. part of that has been attending a conference, part turmoil at work, and part just being busy. i have been viewing and enjoying lots of wonderful and evocative works. as always, i highly recommend viewing the galleries of ArtPearl, Rutra and bogart137. if you haven't seen their latest works, you should definitely do so. thanks for viewing, and for any and all comments and feedback.

It's good to take a break from the unrealistically beautiful faces so common in the galleries. I really like the hair. I also like the very subtle tilt of the face. I also like the lighting. I know the ambient light is very strong but even so I think maybe a very slight shadow cast by the hair would exist in reality. Thanks for mentioning my gallery. :-)

I like this portrait. Why? Because it´s about a normal person, and I find it more attractive than a lot of faces we usually see in this town. I´m not a lighting specialist, but I´ve noticed that ambient light sometimes can be deceptive many times it doesn´t cast shadows the way it should be, and therefore shapes of objects aren´t well reflected. So I guess you´ll never get the appearence you want for that hairstyle by using ambient light. I´m almost sure this hairstyle is great the way it is; it´s just a matter of lighting. I´ll suggest you to use just a couple of simple lights: a front one or your main light source_, and a backlight. I´m almost convinced that the results will come closer to those you´re looking for. Thanks for mentioning my gallery, too. And I apologize for late commenting.

The hair... you're dissatisfied? This is amazing hair! You didn't mention how you achieved it: prop/figure? post-work drawing? how?? I can't get over the hair.
