Description
This coast line night shot was taken about 2 weeks ago at Orange Beach, Alabama. This is approximately a 20 second exposure at 200 ISO, 18mm lens.
It was a cold and windy night, but quite calm in comparison to 2am on September 16, 2004 when Hurricane Ivan made landfall here bringing in 120 mph sustained winds and a 20-30 foot storm surge. I can only imagine what it must have looked like.
Note in the foreground the rows of newly planted indigenous "Sea Oats", a coast side plant essential in preventing sand dune erosion. Of course all the original plants were blown/washed away by Ivan, but they are making a come back. It's all part of a massive beach restoration effort going on all along the gulf coast. Where Ivan left off in 2004 Katrina picked up in 2005.
Thanks for viewing!
