Description

This is one of the typical street corners of the old Berlin with a typical house. It was build around 1880 - 1900. Normally there was a beer bar at the ground floor with the entrance from the corner. Most of this corner houses were destroyed in the last few weeks of World War II, when Adolf Hitler ordered the last man standing to defend the "Reichshauptstadt" These houses were "strategic important"; guys of 16 and old men of 70 defended these streets here against russian tanks, house for house and corner for corner... After WW II the destroyed corners were filled with cheap and ugly new buildings. Lord, have mercy and send a bulldozer... Thanks for looking in and for your interest for my older pics. So much history, and a shame to see these buildings go. They don't build them like they used to. Wonderful image.

Very beautiful Photo, fantastic corner house. I am not from Berlin but my Dad grew up in a Corner House in Germany and I remember from visiting my Grandparents there on the weekends. You are right, you do not find them often anymore.
