Description

The forces sweetheart found her man, he's showing her his weekend pass, telling her he's got 48hrs to be with her before he has to report back to barracks. They must make the most of it as he could well be shipped overseas when he reports back. I haven't a clue really as to what he is showing her, you have to have a bit of poetic licence when you are at these places. Sounds better as well. Lol. I wasn't born until 1948, I was a late demob baby, my dad didn't get dishcharged unti 1947, lol, but I can imagine that what I wrote up top, happened all over the British Isles, as well as in all the other countries embroiled in the war. Quite a large number being shipped overseas never to return, these re-enactments staged in different countries serve two purposes, one: it's a good day out and lot's of fun can be had, two: It's a time to remember all those that fell, so that we could live free men & women. Thanks for stopping by for a look and for any comments you care to make. May the sun shine down on you, where ever you are. Cloudy with outbreaks of sunshine here.

I was a post war baby but the stories were still fresh when I was young and the old photos were in a box in the coat closet. The postwork on this is spot-on! Just as I remember them looking. Wonderful shot posed so perfectly and your imagined conversation is also a match.

I bet you're right about the conversation! :) No matter what they're looking at, though, that's a great shot. Wonderful capture!

My mom and dad were married during one of these weekend passes; then he left for almost 2 years!! I was born 9 months after he returned, the first of the baby boomers, and boy, there are LOTS of us!!! Absolutely wonderful foto, you have completely captured their feelings; this whole series is just fantastic!!

A lovely period shot Jeff. You are probably right on what he showed her and on what they planned. Great write up. My buddy and I go to many of these shows, but they are mostly just about WWII aircraft, except Reading, PA. There were a lot of old veterans, Air Force, Army, Marines, and Coast Guard, and some re-enactments. The Nazi uniforms give me the chills, as I remember some of the stuff. These shows are a good reminder to the current generation of what some of our fathers and grandfathers went through to keep us free. Too many of the young people take things for granted. Thanks for sharing, Sig...
