Description

morning all :o) this is a white handed gibbon ,a very energetic and acrobatic creature .a few of them had been chasing each other round including this one and this one ended up on top of the climbing frame with that great expression as if to say what you looking at :o) i learnt something new yesterday, taken me a while to fathom it out though ,must be my age :o)..i have been letting the camera meter the scene i`ve been shooting and its been doing a great job of it but apparently it does`nt always get it right according to a book i have .so yesterday as we had a fine warm sunny day i took the book and camera outside and started taking a shot with the camera`s meter setting and one with a meter reading from the blue sky .the result was a lot of detail was lost and the shot overexposed by 1 stop with the camera`s setting and a perfectly detailed shot that was exposed correctly with the metering from the sky .a lot of you will probably know this already but i thought i would share this info with you .the book is called understanding exposure :o).. oh i found some info on the gibbons for you aswell . Also known as the Lar Gibbon, they have a variable coat color, that varies from cream to black and dark brown to red; the variation is not related to gender or age. They live in both primary and secondary tropical dry deciduous and moist evergreen forests. They eat 50% fruits, 30% leaves, 13% insects and 7% flowers. They, as all gibbons, use a special way of getting through the trees, it is called brachiation, going hand over hand, swinging from branch to branch, usually at speed. They are monogamous, one male - one female plus offspring in a close family group. They spend virtually all their time high in the trees and they, as all gibbons, will defend their territory with violent aggression. They have a melodic 'great call', the female starts and the male joins as she finishes. They are found in pockets of forest in south east Asia, the Malay peninsula and northern Sumatra. have a great day and thanks for looking and special thanks to those who are commenting on ashleigh`s pics :o).. mick

Great shot.. and thanks for all the info.. both on the camera settings and the facts on the gibbons, quite a diet.. 13 percent insects YECK lol And as for the comments on Ashleigh pictures, they are well deserved, she seems to have a natural talent at such a young age. And I think it’s wonderful that you have shown her and obviously inspired her interest in photography, and art.

Oh wonderful! I see you got a good lesson in anthropology. ;o) Soooo... did you see any New World monkeys with the prehensile tails? Yes, I took anthro classes in college, and have been on field trips, too.
