Description

Last Wednesday while the rest of the gang was snowboarding, I just wandered around the area taking fotos. My son lives right across the road from Donner Lake, so I got out and walked along the shore for a while. It was WINDY, probably 30-40 mph, which in turn made the temperature about 30 degrees!! This usually flat lake had waves of about 2 feet, and you can see the white caps!! This is looking north, still snow on that shore, but on the south side where I was walking, it was sunny, with just a few patches of snow in the sheltered spots. A beautiful place to visit, but~~~~nope I wouldn't want to live there in the winter!!!

Very choppy so I can imagine the wind factor. Looks like a nice place for a stroll, but as you say, not in the winter.

I feel that way about a lot of places - nice to visit, wouldn't want to live there. ;o) I haven't seen Donner Lake in years. Great capture.

Icy cold and choppy but if you were brave enough, this is a great time to sink some bait for bass on the bottom trying to keep warm. And if there are trout in there, same goes for them. I just never have been able to withstand the winds. A very expressive shot.

Choppy waves permeate the lake in this cool shot, Marilyn. Brrrr, I can imagine the chill factor! Fine panoramic view of Donner Lake, evidently named after the unfortunate party of pioneers who met a most undesirable fate in and around Donner Pass.

A beautiful capture, it's amazing how one side can be sunny and the other snowy but in Texas I did see it raining once on one side of the street and sunny on the other for just a few minutes,.
