Description
The next stop on the tour is the Plasma Gasification Unit.
Any community will generate waste and the residents of the research dome are no exception.
To efficiently dispose of their waste, this technology would work quite well. With a hefty jolt of electricity to start the process, once going, it remains pretty much self sustaining.
With only a steady injection of waste, via the tube and hopper feed, the plasma gasifier rips the fuel apart at the atomic level with only a gas mixture and a complex liquid silicate by-product which are drawn off from the top and bottom of the reaction vessel.
The gas can be cleaned up, cooled, and used as a fuel for a generator which can keep the process going with power left over for use elsewhere in the facility.
For more information on the technology, LOOK HERE.
This is a rather optimistic look at the process and it should be borne in mind that questions and concerns about emissions from the unit have been raised.
Google can provide plenty of further reading if desired. :-)
