Description

Hi, thanks for clicking in. This is the latest in my "I can't think of anything to do so I'll just render some cool models in Vue and see what happens" series... a.k.a. working though artistic blockage. Here we have another free model from Anders "Bazze" Lejczak - the "Atmo-Fighter." If you enjoyed yesterday's "Sulaco" image this one uses most of the same techniques. Vue6i render. The planet was textured with a material from Monsoon's "Outer Rim" set and is the default spectral atmosphere with the camera and fighter craft moved up about 10km. See the brief tutorial in 3D World #102 for details. The fighter materials are Bazze's original textures with some procedural shading, bump and specular variations added. The engine jets were accomplished with point lights and a couple of cones with some procedural glow effects. Render time was under an hour with high quality settings and global illumination. The backgound is the same starfield from the 'Sulaco' image, minus the nebula and was composited in in Photoshop using the alpha mask from the render and a little hand painting to mask the planet. Many thanks to those who've commented recently (especilly those who said they are using 'Sulaco' as a desktop) as you've really helped with a difficult period. Blockage is no fun, especially when one is used to a steady flow of inspiration. I'm begining to believe that the key is to work anyways: start with something small, control your expectations, and often it will grow into something interesting of its own accord. A change in direction seems to help as well. Even though I have not been working with DAZ|Studio lately I'd like to take a moment to thank all the folks at DAZ Artists Guild for the support, advice and allaround comfortable place to hang out. Just a holiday guys... back soon I'm sure. pax --michael

Excellent work, I really like the space theme. I would still like to see somemore of Ugluk and Fluffy though. Or maybe you could make it Ugluk and a Millenium puppie :0)

A bit of nostalgia in these, those old ships still look good though and your atmosphere looks much more real in this one.
