Description
After spending most of the first day of our trip travelling with intent toward the west coast we'd taken so many photos my camera's batteries had died (battery pack ordered and now in the post!) so didn't end up with masses of shots from the first day. The next one however we made up for it snapping away at the breathtaking, barren scenery on the island of Skye. Here is a pretty typical Skye mountain view, HDR from 3 RAW exposures. I had considered blending a darker exposure of the sky in with the slightly blown parts but in the end decided the light was the focus of the image and to leave it - does it work alright or should I stop taking shortcuts? ;)

From my brother' and sister's photos, and various Gaelic TV programs, this definitely looks like Skye, my friend. HDRI is great, very realistic, but time consuming, and usually needs images in RAW format. Dynamic Photo HDR (DPHDR) by Mediachance is a nice Vista compatible program that does most of the work for you, if you do not already have an easy-to-use plugin or stand alone program. However, I think that like painting a model, or any other design work, one just needs to know when to stop. For this one, stop. Regards, John.

What a magnificent capture. Those sun rays are just beautiful, as is the rest of the scene. Whatever you're doing, as I know nothing about photography, keep on with excellent photos.
