Description

Maybe they finally ran out of decent names for tiny flowers, but that's what this spring flower is called. Each flower is only about 1" across when fully open. It consists of 3 light violet petals, 6 stamens with yellow anthers, and a mass of feathery styles in the center of the flower. They usually grow in batches of 2, as shown here. Each flower lasts only a single day and lacks any noticeable scent. Because only a few flowers are in bloom at the same time, the blooming period is fairly long. These flowers were among the ruins of the Windsor Plantation, an amazing place we visited down in Mississippi a couple of weeks back. I'd imagine the natural wild flowers there get overlooked being located next to such an amazing place, but this one, and Flower in the Ruins caught my eye as well. Thanks for stopping by! marshall

Fantastic close up detail, color and DOF. The yellow and purple certainly makes a great contrast.

Excellent close-up with a marvelous contrast between the flowers in blue and yellow and the rest of the composition, especially the green leaves.
