Description
This is the view from the upstairs gallery at Rosswood Plantation, looking at one of the two flags that fly there each day. This is the Mississippi state flag. The other one not seen in this shot is the United States flag.
The Mississippi state flag still bears the Confederate "Stars & Bars" from almost 150 years ago. That's a point of contention for some who see it as representing bondage and slavery, but for others it's simply a matter of heritage and pride.
Regardless, both fly together proudly at Rosswood Plantation, a scene involving much history representative of both flags.
Colonel Walt Hylander and his wife Jean, the proprietors of the estate who reside there and run a Bed & Breakfast, place both flags out each morning side by side and bring them back inside each evening. As Jean told us, "The Colonel doesn't allow the flags to be out after dusk".
For more about Rosswood and a panoramic view, check out my first Rosswood post, simply called Rosswood Plantation.
Should you ever find yourself down just south of Vicksburg, it would be a treat to always remember should you spend an evening with Jean and the Colonel and partake in the delightful historical charms of the Rosswood Plantation.

The setting is so beautiful for the Mississippi flag. Those trees are magnificent and would love to visit Rosswood. My Father's family originated there in Mississippi. Beautiful capture!
