Description

The Old Boars Head dates back to at least 1632 and the earliest recorded landlady was a Mary Fitton in 1753. One tale tells of the famous Highwayman Dick turpin once stopped here on his way to York. Far right of the building The sessions room (pictured in the last upload complete with ghost lol), was added to the building in the 1800's. This room was where local court sessions took place and a there were a few undesirables sent to the gallows from here. All information was gained from this webpage here - it also shows an older picture of the pub. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/c.mcdonagh1/middleton%20page.html Sylvia and myself have a Sunday Carvery here almost every weekend, I live 5 minutes walk from here!

I like the trees on either side and the clouds add a lot . The style of the dark wood shapes show the reality not the usual neat renders. And I envy you having this as a local !

I didn't think you could get the whole front in, in one shot Alan, I thought the Library would be in the way. How did your trip to Three Owls go? You have done well with this one, I like the old studded door, have you taken a closer shot of that? The texture would be great I think. Superb capture, thanks for the information. Bravo!!!!!

Lovely! The sky is gorgeous in the background and the long tree branch shadows on the street are wonderful as well. Very interesting info on this place.

Jeff - I used my new Samsung GX10 with the wide angle D-Xenon18-55 to get the whole building in, I stood across the road in the doorway of the library, I couldn't go back any further. I photoshopped out an unsightly "Library times of opening" sign!

Great photo, Alan! Thanks for sharing and for your information! I love this kind of old buildings very much. The only modern thing is the waste basket in the front! What means this tableau at the right side of the door? The menue?
