Description
You know how when you run over an ant mound, there is a sudden flurry of intense activity with the ants (a) trying to find you, the intruder and sting the daylights out of you, and (b) trying to recover all their larvae and pupae and take them underground to safety? Well, this mound is missing at least one pupae. Anyone who has ever been bitten by a fire ant will know why I call them mighty. At only 1/8 to 1/4 inch long, their stings pack quite a whollop and leave a red blistered sore that takes a week to go away, two weeks if you can't resist scratching. Thanks for looking and thank you very kindly for your recent comments.

Very interesting, Maria. I knew ants bit, but not that they ever stung. But I looked it up and you're right. Gee, I'm not sorry we don't have fire ants in Oregon. :-)

I have never seen an albino ant before, or is it just that it is a young one? I know all about ant bites, I sat on an ant hill when about eight or nine years old, short pants on as well. I was covered in them (52 years ago) and I still remember.lol. Excellent macro, using the green leaf was a brilliant idea. Bravo!!!!!

OMG, what a fabulous macro, exquisite in its uniqueness! Actually, it looks like shards of wax lying there, even with the little eye staring up into space. You are so right....fire ants really do pack a wallop, and the further away I am from them, the better.
stormsong
excellent macro! Great lighting. I hope you weren't stung too badly or any other animal or person about at the time of the run over.

I've been on the wrong end of the stings, but I've never seen one of these. Outstanding capture and I didn't get bit to see it. I like that part. :o) Bunny
