Description

"3/12/2185, 0930 hours. We are approximately 12 km north of the landing site; we have entered one of the smaller chimney fields that is very broken by the channeling seen in the orbital imaging. It's obvious this area has been dormant for several thousand years due to the extreme self erosion of the smoker vents examined so far. The mineral depth here is several kilometers down, but looks entirely accessible. Unlike walker # 2, which is 20 km south, we are finding remnants of the sulphurized atmosphere lying in the low areas. Samples will be small, since we don't want to expose the lower leg supports to such corrosive elements for too long." Vue 6, Studio Max for the Terra Walker, Photoshop. Experimenting with displacement materials and a latent adolescent imagination. Thanks for you views and comments.

Wow. This is great. I love the consistency of the image with the backstory -- the "remnants of the sulphurized atmosphere lying in the low areas" are plainly visible. This is a commendable commitment to logic and a storyline . . . reminds me of the hard SF writers like Benford. That sulphorous material does seem to change in consistency slightly from the foreground to the background-- looks like a gas further down the canyon, like dried residue in foreground.

Let's hear it for that latent adolescent imagination. Some of the best work around comes from that source! Including this wonderful offering. Great scene with lots of depth, terrific terrain work in a very compelling setting.
