Description

This is the dry storage section of the Edmonds marina in Edmonds, Washington. A couple of people have 'fessed up to not knowing exactly where I am. Edmonds is about 20 miles North of Seattle, Washington, on the West Coast of the United States. Here's a map. Keep zooming out until you know where you are. Dry storage is for power boats, not sailboats. If you think about masts and keels, you'll understand why! They have this huge forklift, and they pick the boats up and stack them in these racks. When you want to use your boat, they go and fetch it for you and bring it to the launching facility. There's this huge double sling, and they put the boat in the sling, and lower the boat into the water. I've found a link to the Port of Edmonds Marine Facilities page for those of you who like to know about this sort of thing! You know who you are! :) To me, this is sort of like posting a picture of a parking lot. I've taken several pictures of this dry storage lot, but never posted them because I look at 'em and think, "Shoot - nobody wants to see THAT, it's boring!" I'm told it might not be as boring to everyone else, since they don't live here! I couldn't help doing some postwork, though. Trust me - the boats are pretty much all white to start with, and a color version of this isn't much different!

Beautiful shot, Tara. We have these here, too, and they are an interesting sight all stacked up like that -- like fish out of water. ;o) And I love Cosine's take on the boats being high enough for the global warming flood.

Cool capture! I'd like to find a way to photograph the big one up at the Port of Everett, it looks so interesting from I-5 as you drive by... lots of photo ops there, I'm sure.

This is a fantastic picture! I love the clarity and crispness of it! You have an eye for shape and light/shadow dynamics and it's clear here! Fantastic work!

Hehehe! I like the parking lot analogy! Great shot tho! And the black and white is perfect! Would hate to see what happened after one of those bigger quakes hit...haven't heard, any good sized ones lately?
