Description

Berlin, 1923. Inflation on it's tide. In October a Dollar was 40 Billion Marks. Wages were paid three times a day. When you were lucky you could buy a loaf of bread or half a pound of butter or a pound of noodles before the new exchange rates were known. If you had no foreign currency you were fighting against starvation. But if you had Dollars, Pounds, Franks, whatever; or if you were in the black market, everything was different! Berlin, 1923. Premier of Bertold Brecht's play 'Baal' - a flop. MAN introduced the first serial Diesel engine car and nail polish was on the market for the first time. Berlin, 1923. Anna Deborah Jespersen, nee Perlmann was born - my grandmother. Berlin, 1923 was not golden, but it was also fun! The restrictions of pre war era were gone. If you could afford it there was a party every night. Gay people didn't hide anymore (female that is, for males there still was the threat of imprisonment), but it seems that no one did care. Women delighted to dress in (male) morning dresses, or underwear or... nothing?. Gay or straight. Party waitresses appeared with a small fig leaf as a dress, if that. Claire Waldof - a famous singer - outed herself as a lesbian (praise her). Berlin, 1923 was not golden, but it was fun, a lot of fun (if you had money, just like today). No one knew they were dancing on a vulcano... 1923. Hitler went to prison for only one year for an attempted putsch (crimes coming from the right wing of politics were hardly punished at all, contrary to left wing crimes) and Marlene Dietrich appeared in a few little screen roles, 5 years to go to 'Blue Angel'. What we now call the 'Golden Twenties' is still a year ahead, 5 more years to 'Three-penny-opera' or 'All quiet on the western front', only 6 years to the Black Friday market crash. 10 years to the catastrophy of Nazi government. ***** A pic I found in the attic, hope you like it. ***** Have a wonderful weekend! Have fun (if on the vulcano) ;-)!

I'm confused about a few things... One, Is this a picture or poser (your gallery says poser, you said you found it in the attic). Picture looks great, the age look and reality look great... the only thing that made me think poser, is, I see facial features that make me think of poser.

Found in the attic, my ass! This is wonderful. Wonderful! The picture is so damn evocative - conjures up all sorts of forbidden lust and intrigue. And the text! It is so compelling! I could not have done so well and I write for a living. Is English your first language? A favorite!

That's a really cool vintage recreation right down to the wear and scratches.
