Description
This is aquilegia, commonly known as columbine. I took this picture in my very own garden last year. (No sneak factor!) It's a good thing I've got pretty flower pictures left over from last year, because yesterday we got about five inches of SNOW at my house!
I've lived here all my life, and I don't remember ever having snow like that this late in the year. The temperature was hovering just a degree above freezing, so we got loads of snow, but it was melting off the roads pretty quickly.
I took a picture of the snow last night and was going to post it, but I'm tired of dreary weather, and I'm just going to live in denial for a while here, if nobody minds. If I don't look out the window, I can imagine my garden is full of flowers!

Well what a great macro this is Tara, and you imagine away, one day you'll look out and there will be a wash of colour :), interestingly, the weather has been nuts all over the globe?

I'm glad you brought some springtime into my life today. I was out running errands an hour ago and first I got snowed on, then a hailstorm struck, and then more snow. Mother Nature is as confused as I am most days.

Believe it or not we too got snow last night? What strange weather? Woke up to winter wonderland and now this afternoon it's all gone & sunny!!! Whew!!!! Beautiful shot Tara, and I'm glad you stuck with the theme!!!!

One of my favorite flowers and I keep going out to see if any have bloomed yet. WE had big beautiful cotton balls of snow yesterday but it didn't stick. It snowed all day today, but it didn't stick either so guess we are lucky in that respect. I keep wondering when it's all going to go away lol.

My sister and I always said my mom lived on that same river, you know, the river of de Nile!!! Great foto, and snow??? UGH!!! There oughta be a law against snow this time of year - but at least you gave us this gorgeous foto to make up for it!!

Wow, a pretty flower, but it and the buds around it look exhausted and/or effete...possibly due to the off season cold and snowy weather you've been experiencing. Actually, a good shot considering the poor lighting conditions, my friend. And, does aquilegia have anything to do with Christine Aguilera? I know, bad joke.

Snow!!!??? WOW...Hopefully it hasn't damaged gardens too much! As for this photo, it's an amazing, low sneak factor image! I love the color and detail in this one, especially the details. Great image all around!

wow i love this picture, it's strange as to me the purple flowers look like birds with their wigs out and the pink buds look like flamigos all stood round a pole but then thats me and my imagination as to be a fav for me love it hugs cj xx

Wow, Tara. This is a really differnet Columbine than I am familiar with. And so very beautiful! Great pov. Sorry to hear about the snow. We had a high of about 63 today with gusty winds. Still, that's not as bad as snow!

Agree with PJ..our Columbines don't look like these..the blue one does look like a pair of birds..we had 80 degrees yesterday and 60 today with high winds.. but still sunny..hang in there...

I love columbines, and this is a beautiful up-close-and-personal introduction...well captured! We had snow too (I know, I'm not very far from you!) but it didn't stick. Still, it's strange to hear thunder, then look out the window and see snow. Very bizarre indeed!
