Description

These grackles came by the dozens just the other day, taking over and shooing away all other birds, as they raided the feeders. Their sound is unique; I went out and found a sound clip in case you are interested. http://www.mbr-pwrc.usgs.gov/id/htmwav/h5110so.mp3 To be honest, I think I should create my own, because the clips I found doesn't really match 100% to the sounds I hear here; but then where I feed them, they might sound a bit more aggressive. Thanks for stopping by and for any comments you may leave. I hope you have a lovely day. Shari

well caught. i think if i was a small bird i would give this guy a wide berth, he looks mean, very menacing reptilian call too. (i remember hearing grackles in Texas many years ago, boat-tailed i think, and they sounded like badly-tuned radios).

You captured the shiny color very well. I suppose they are much like the starlings we know. Good post work & presentation Shari.

I've heard of a grackle, but have never seen one. The colors are just beautiful! From the sound clip, it seems they can get a bit raucous! Wonderful image.

I was thinking along the same lines as Piet and Carin, they look like the starlings we have here in the UK. A very greedy bird in my experience, they are always in flocks and try and scare the blue tits and sparrows away from the feeders, I have a dome covering one of the feeders and they find it hard to get to the feed, the smaller birds get in OK. Excellent capture Shari, the iridescent colouring looks great. Bravo!!!!!

I think he looks like our magpies, the crow family all make noises that could be describesd as 'grackle'. Superb pic.

Splendid presentation, as always, Sherilyn! Terrific POV employed in this macro. The only birds of the black persuasion we have around my neck of the woods are crows.
