Description

Wooden Beacon Alone on a hilltop. Standing tall. As the afternoon light casts its shadow along the path; leading to this place. Rough cut. Jagged edges. A hurried work. Failing to touch the heart by its beauty. Nothing to please the eyes. Dark wood. Stained red. A symbol of torture. A symbol of death. Of judgment. Penalty paid. No chance of appeal. No "death-row". Just death. I sit in the shadow cast upon the ground. Vision blurred by the tears. Sorrow? Yes. Ache? Yes. Joy? ...yes. It all comes down to this: a wooden beacon on a hill. Calling all to come and know the price tag that hung upon the splintered wood. J.P. Wiegand ©Emittravel 1999 ----- It's been said recently that there are churches that are removing the cross in order to make themselves more seeker-friendly. The cross is considered "offensive" to some. It's funny to me how concerned we are with being offended, but find no issue with offending God. Yet, if it wasn't for the "offense", there would be NO justification. Am I willing to be offended for Him? -j.p.
