I write to express emotions. Some emotions are best expressed via music. I also play blues harmonica.BIOMy real name is J.P. and I have been writing since about 1984. Actually longer than that if you count creative writing classes in high school. I started when I got into the Navy; I was a serious romantic, with no avenue to share it with someone. The recruitment posters in the day said things like, "Join the Navy - See the World". Well, three-quarters of the world is WATER. Being away from those I loved drew a deep loneliness that I discovered could be expressed in writing. Been doing it ever since.
The way most of my shtuff comes about is that I feel a deep desire to write, driven by an emotion strongly felt in my heart. Usually, the only way to release that emotion is to start writing. I compare the experience to giving birth. Not that its something Ive ever truly experienced, mind you, but the cycle seems the same. Comes in waves. It is laborious to do. Sometimes I don't like the challenge of picking up the pen, because I know what I'm getting myself into. Not until I know the poem is complete does that emotion subside, and the baby is born.
I've met wonderful people along the way. There is one lady who actually inspired me to get involved with this site. To her goes my undying gratitude.
I sincerely hope you find yourself in these writings. Maybe not as the character, but in the emotion expressed. May what you read inspire you to strive for all that life can be - not in goals and accomplishments, but in the experience of what life is; good, bad, painful, ecstatic, whatever. Grasp it with both hands and never let it go!
