This little dude let me get macro-close. I didn't realize the beautiful coloring until I saw the photo.
The dark orange sunflowers attract a lot of insects and are a favorite of my wife (I grew them from seeds), but the squirrels just loved them. They are hybrids which do not produce seeds (so where did the seeds come from that I started them with???), but the squirrels don't seem to know that -- they climb up the stalks, chew up the blooms and spit them out all over the yard.
I said, "Never again," but here I am again, raising plants to be sacrificed in the name of terrorist squirrels and a wife who cries, "But they are so beautiful!"
Recently, the squirrels have teamed up with the rabbits and woodchucks in an Axis of Evil, hellbent on destroying my garden. Forget Iraq and Afganistan -- I need a surge right here.

I loved you description of the image...made me chuckle. I have chipmunks in the Summer who like to play hell with some of my flowers...especially the Geberra Daisies. Little devils!! This is a beautiful capture and the colors are great.

What an amazing image you have captured here... Don't see many sunflowers that color here in Ky Most of what I see are all yellow....would love to see a field of these beauties... Def another fav with me...and the butterfly just adds the perfect touch Hugs Susan~

I'll lend you a couple of dogs. This is a wonderful picture. We also grow sunflowers. There is a funny story about how the house of the exmayor's house of our city, Bel Air was raided because someone thought they were growing MJ and it turned out to be sunflowers. They happen to be the state flower of Kansas where we live, opps.
