Description

Captured 2/25/08, around 6:50 AM, exactly .65 miles/1.046 kilometers from my decadent dwelling. Presenting the first in a series of shots taken above the Interstate 5 Freeway, a major arterial link traversing the West Coast of the United States, beginning/ending at the Mexican border and ending/beginning at the Canadian border (British Columbia). The series will contain pictures displaying the freeway under various traffic, lighting and weather conditions -- no rain, tho -- at about the same time of the morning, and always in and around this vantage point, with just minor variations in the POV. Incidentally, this spot is about 18 miles/28.96 kilometers southeast of downtown Los Angeles, California. The top photo is shown looking southeast, and the bottom shot is looking northwest. The two buildings shown at the right in the bottom pic are the Marriott Hotel and the County court building. As for the stop-and-go traffic in the top photo, some of the drivers, rather bemused that I was up above taking photos of their daily frustration, shook their fists at me, shouting epithets. But, like so many other things in life, that goes with the territory. Worth zooming in on. Have a merry May Day!

I wouldn't last a day if I drove on the other side lol (like in Australia) :) Good ole city life .. Born and raised in Minneapolis, now living in the country, I dont think I could go back. This is a good reminder how busy it was. Nice shot!

Today they closed the main interstate I-40 going through the area of Tennessee where I live for the next 14 months so they could finish construction, lane widening and adding 8 bridges, going to be pretty interesting getting around here for a while. Interesting photo!

Excellent shots, very interesing to look at. That's how the freeways in Germany look every day. It's my daily bread.

Fascinating! Those drivers should be keeping their eyes on the road, not looking up!

I'm looking at the noise wall and wondering if it is the one I had built in the 70's. I need correlation between route numbers and names. San Diego Freeway is where my wall is by College Park East in Seal Beach. Just before it joins the San Gabriel Freeway. The Long Beach Freeway is further north. It is 6000 feet long and 14 feet high of tiltup wall on custom made posts.

Cool shot, Harry! I wonder if other people up and down the I-5 corridor would get out on an overpass and take pictures? That would be cool. I'm trying to think of a place where I could do that ... I work about a mile from the freeway, up here at the other end!
