Description

Nikon 7900 pocket camera - hand held image. Here is a rather odd insect. It is a little bigger than a big ladybug. It opens it's outer shell and can then fly like a ladybug. It's outer shell is partially transparent. At first glance the overall appearance as it hugs it's self tightly against foliage, would suggest bird droppings. As an added neat fact, like a turtle, it pulls it's antennae in when threatened, lol. I have seen pics of these in various bug books but these are the first I have ever seen first hand. I had several opportunities today to capture some images of these critters, but out of a bunch of shots, these were the best I managed to get. The transparent parts of the outer shell made it very difficult to get a really crisp, sharp image. I will try again as soon as it becomes possible. Thanks to those who take the time to comment. Lee

What an intriguing creature and a gorgeous capture! I'd love to see these first hand, though your captures do justice to them. I'm big on science fiction and I have to say that this image holds quite a lot of potential in regard to stirring my own creativity in the writing field. That's always a sign of good work, in my opinion. Great clarity and detail.

It looks to be encapsulated in a sort of bubble, a gelatinous substance. Almost snail like in structure, something I have never seen before, I'm sure I must walk round with my eyes closed. Lol. Excellent capture Lee. Bravo!!!!!
