Description

Eugene Ely lands his “pusher” Curtiss D biplane on a specially constructed platform on the stern of ACR -4 Pennsylvania. It was January 18th 1911 in Puget Sound and was an aviation first. Sandbags were connected by ropes as a forerunner of the arrestor wires of the future aircraft carriers. Just two month’s before, Mr. Ely had made the first take off from a ship, the CL-2 USS Birmingham. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. If I was the pilot of that plane, I'd have to say: "WE NEED A BIGGER BOAT"
